Two prison officers and three inmates have been taken to hospital after a prison van collided with another vehicle in Sydney's west.

A prison van was transferring 11 prisoners from Parklea Correctional Centre to Silverwater Remand Centre about 7.35am (AEDT) on Thursday when it was in a collision with another vehicle on the corner of Silverwater Road and Holker Street.

One of the prisoners, all of whom were all due to face court on Thursday, was rushed to hospital soon after the collision.

It is not known what injuries he sustained.

Two officers in the van, one who sustained suspected neck and back injuries, were taken to Westmead Hospital, a spokesman from the NSW Department of Corrective Services told AAP.

The remaining 10 inmates were taken to the Silverwater Remand Centre to be medically examined.

Two of them were later taken to hospital.
