July 20, 2008, 2:52 pm

The ABC's news director will travel to Singapore early this week to seek answers from South Asia correspondent Peter Lloyd following his arrest last Thursday.

A statement released by the ABC said the national broadcaster had not yet had any direct contact with Mr Lloyd since his arrest.

"The ABC's Director of News, John Cameron, will be in Singapore early this week and is hoping to be able to speak directly to Peter," the statement said.

"An ABC lawyer has been sent to Singapore to ensure appropriate legal representation for Mr Lloyd."

The ABC has refused to provide any further comment.

Mr Lloyd is charged with trafficking and possessing a controlled drug.

If convicted, he faces up to 20 years' jail and five to 15 lashes with a cane.
