Crane falls into Sydney Harbour near Luna Park

A crane has toppled into Sydney Harbour.

The crane was working near Luna Park at Milsons Point, just in front of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Luke Bayley told the ABC he saw the crane crash into the water about 1pm.

“I heard a huge bang. I looked up and I saw the crane splash into the water," he said.

"It was a huge bang, it startled me, I thought a bomb had gone off."

Waterway Constructions crew are currently at the site.

It fell into the water at about 1pm.

The crane was working from a barge, just below the bridge.

It's not clear if anyone has been injured.

Andrew Da Silva, owner of Any Boat, the neighbouring marina in Lavender Bay, said he has "never seen anything like this".

"We have tourists go past that exact location almost daily so we were lucky no one was killed," he said.

Charter boat owner Luke Feledy was doing work on his boat whilst on the mooring when he heard the bang.

"I looked up and there was this huge wave of sea spray caused by the crane crashing into the water," Mr Feledy said.

It's understood the barge has been secured and has tug boats and RMS boats making the area safe, but the salvage mission will be complicated.

It's understood emergency services haven't been called in.
