Bomb squad sent into home after Melbourne raids

Residents of a street in Melbourne's north are returning home tonight after a bomb scare forced them to flee.

The ordeal began at 9am when the bomb squad was called to an Epping house after possible explosive materials were found during a search warrant.

The street was blocked off and police door knocked the area telling residents to vacate the area.

Then the robot was rolled out to enter the property.

People who returned home throughout the day weren't allowed back to their houses.

Two bomb disposal units spent quite a lot of time inside the property inspecting the suspicious materials.

It was finally declared safe and residents were allowed back into their houses a shortly after 5pm.

Police reiterated that their ongoing investigation was not terror related and no explosive device was found.
