'Weed in exchange for petrol': Facebook group selling drugs to school students
There are fears school children, some as young as 15, are being lured into taking illicit drugs via Facebook.
Experts say the hidden pages are impossible to police and offer a smorgasbord of illicit drugs including marijuana, MDMA and methamphetamine.
The invite only group in South Australia, Northern and Southern Chronic, has users exchanging money for drugs via requests.
A man named Troy is seen asking if anyone can “drop $25 worth of marijuana in exchange for petrol,” to which, one user responds, “I can.”
Some others are seen offering to swap bongs and ADHD medication while shockingly, a mother says she can catch up after dropping her child off at daycare.
A teenage drug user known as “Jacinta” warned, “you have no idea who it could be” when you arrange to meet up to buy drugs from someone through the online exchange.
But criminologist Russell Brewer said anyone performing illegal activity online will be caught.
“Everything we do online is tracked in some way, shape or form,” he said.
Police said there were aware of drug dealing online when asked what action they would take against these groups.
Facebook has shutdown a few of them but Jacinta said, “within a month there’s a new one with a different name”.
