Toddlers seriously injured as unlicensed father charged over head-on-crash

A young Adelaide father charged over a head-on crash, that's left his four-year-old daughter fighting for life, has been refused bail.

Little Holly Falkiner has undergone life saving spinal surgery after she was seriously injured in a shocking crash on the Thiele Highway just before 9.00pm on Saturday.

Incredibly, her 18-month-old brother, Harley, escaped with only a broken arm.

Their father, Luke Falkiner, was behind the wheel of the car that collided head on with another.

The 32-year-old has been charged with aggravated harm caused by dangerous driving after two witnesses claim they saw his car driving on the wrong side of the road.

It’s claimed at one stage Falkiner, who has reportedly never held a driver's licence, accelerated up to 120 km/h.

His lawyer pleaded with the magistrate to release his client on bail because the children were all he had after their mother died in November last year.

However the prosecutor said Falkiner had told police he had taken amphetamines just two days before the accident.

He added that the father was given 10 minutes in hospital to see his injured children before he was arrested.

The court heard that Falkiner has a history of driving and dishonest offences, while he’s also the brother of the man accused of murdering Alex Watts at Elizabeth Shopping Centre in Adelaide.
