NSW man charged with abducting Queensland teenager

A NSW man will face court in central Queensland after allegedly trying to abduct a teenager and take her back to Sydney.

Police say the 24-year-old tried to start an online relationship with the 15-year-old, from Gracemere near Rockhampton, and attempted to persuade her to visit him in South Australia where he was living at the time.

He has since moved to Sydney and it is alleged he drove to Rockhampton with the intention of taking her back with him.

She was reported missing by her family on Monday and police scoured the state for her.

Locals reported seeing her with an older man on Emu Park Road in Rockhampton on Thursday afternoon and police took the man into custody.

He has been charged with abduction of a child under 16 and is due to face Rockhampton Magistrates Court on Friday.

"This incident serves as a timely reminder for parents to be extremely cautious when it comes to their children's activity on social media," Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Elliot warned parents.
