WATCH: iPhone 6 explode as owner takes it to repair shop

CCTV has captured an iPhone 6 exploding in the hands of a man, as he inquires about getting it repaired.

The customer reportedly arrived at the Queensland phone repair shop with a cracked screen and battery life problem.

The repairman initially inspected the phone, then when the customer handled the device to further explain the problem it exploded and started to spew smoke.

“We removed the customer's Otterbox (phone protector) and prepared to book the phone in," the shop attendant explained.

"Then, the customer picked up phone and applied a regular amount of pressure to the screen, the same as any normal person would do everyday during regular use.

“Initial force of the explosion caused the screen to come off the phone. Our staff extinguished the phone with a fire extinguisher.”

The staff had to evacuate the repair shop due to fumes and claimed they were unable to reopen for the rest of the day.

“Draw your own conclusions, but imagine if this happened five minutes earlier when the guy was driving to the shop and not in the shop,” they wrote in the caption under the video, which has since gone viral.

It’s not the first time Apple has faced complaints over smoking or exploding phones.

Last year the company said: "We appreciate that customers are more concerned than ever about the performance and safety of batteries in their mobile devices,” in response to several cases.
