Perth storm turns on stunning sky show for city's photographers

Stunning images are emerging across social media of a loud and colourful night for residents of Perth.

The WA capital saw plenty of chances for photographers, both professional and amateur, to capture the sky show as a storm swept across the city.

It was not all sunsets and stunning photos though.

The wild weather also brought electricity outages which left thousands without power.

According to the Bureau of Meteorology, a surface trough joined forces with some unstable systems further south to create the storm.

The thunderbolts came shortly after stunning sunset bathed the city in a red and orange glow as the horizon gave locals a glimpse of what was to come.

A family at Parkwood escaped with their lives after a house fire firefighters believed was the result of a lightning strike.

Lightning strikes were blamed for leaving about 7000 homes without power, while rainfall estimates ranged from as low as 2.4mm in some areas up to almost 30mm in others.
