Helicopter crashes at airport in Perth's south

Two people have walked away from a helicopter crash at an airport in Perth's south.

The Rotorvation Robinson R44 helicopter was involved in a training exercise at Jandakot Airport around 3.30pm on Monday.

The training was being conducted close to the ground when the helicopter made a hand landing.

The impact of the landing knocked off the tail boom, with emergency crews called to the scene.

The pilot and instructor were able to get out of the aircraft relatively unscathed.

Fire crews from three local stations managed to cut off the fuel supply.

The 40-year-old pilot was taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital for treatment to a cut to his arm.

The 46-year-old instructor did not need medical treatment.

It remains unclear what experience the pilot had before the crash.

The helicopter has been removed from the Jandakot runway, with an investigation now underway.
