Staff member injured as young inmates scale roof in Queensland

A staff member has been injured as a group of juvenile inmates have climbed onto the roof of a Queensland detention facility.

Police are negotiating with the seven juvenile inmates at the Brisbane Youth Detention Centre at Wacol.

A larger group of teenagers took to the rooftop about 2pm on Monday before some climbed down, police say.

One male staff member, aged in his 30s, suffered an eye injury in the disturbance and was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital, according to a Queensland Ambulance spokesperson.

The incident comes just two months after four inmates climbed onto the roof of the same detention facility in November last year.

In that incident, the justice department said the males didn't make any threats or demands, and there are no reports of injuries to the youths or to staff.
