Two boys assaulted, robbed, in Melbourne food court while others watched but did nothing

Confronting footage has surfaced showing two boys attacked and robbed at a Melbourne shopping centre, in full view of dozens who did nothing to help.

The vision of the incident where two boys can be seen seated at a food court at the Highpoint Shopping Centre in Maribyrnong, when they are approached by two other youths.

The pair can be seen shoving the boys, before one of the victims is punched and knocked off his seat onto the floor.

The busy food court was full of people of all ages, with some watching the assault unfold just metres away, but do not intervene.

Maribyrnong Crime Investigation Unit detectives have released the footage in hopes it might help with investigations into the incident.

Police have been told two boys approached two other boys at a "burger shop" at the shopping centre on Rosamond Road, about 1.15pm on January 13.

The two offenders have then demanded a mobile phone from the victims, aged 12 and 13, police said in a statement on Wednesday.

"The offenders, believed to be in their early teens, have then punched one of the victims and stole one of their hats."

The pair were believed to have fled the scene with another boy who was standing nearby at the time of the assault.
