Mother ‘seconds from death’ by teen driver in police chase

A mother who narrowly missed being run down by a stolen car involved in a high-speed police chase said she was oblivious to the drama around her.

Elisha Fuss was crossing a road in Lancefield, Victoria with her six-year-old daughter Tahnee when they were almost hit by a stolen BMW filled with teenagers.

Ms Fuss said she didn’t realise how much of a close call it was until she watched the footage.

“If she [her daughter] had have been half a step behind me, I wouldn't have her here today,” Ms Fuss said.

“As I took the next step I felt the wind whoosh behind me.

"I wouldn't be standing here today I think, if I just had been a step slower.

"I just burst into tears thinking that you know my partner might not have had us both here for Christmas."

The erratic driver of the stolen car put hundreds of lives in danger.

During the police chase, the car was driven on the wrong side of the road, in an emergency lane, off road and over double lines.

Witness John Matthews was in his car and watched the chaos unfold.

“I was pretty shocked just at the speed the car was travelling… about a metre off the pedestrian I reckon,” Mr Matthews said.

Two teenage girls from Thomastown, Melbourne were passengers in the car and jumped out. Both have been charged with car theft.

The hunt is continuing for another passenger and the driver.
