Tinder horror: Doctor stabbed, doused in petrol by man she met online

A young doctor has been savagely attacked and doused in petrol at her NSW home by a man she recently met on dating app Tinder.

Police were forced to shoot Brisbane man Paul Lambert dead after he allegedly lunged at officers with a knife near Coffs Harbour.

It’s alleged Lambert had earlier gone to the Port Macquarie home of Angela Jay and waited for her to arrive from work before he attacked her.

The 28-year-old victim and Lambert met on dating app Tinder just weeks ago, but he was reportedly unhappy when Dr Jay decided to end the brief relationship.

Court documents show Dr Jay became fearful of Lambert after their romance turned sour, and she was granted an apprehended violence restraining order against the 36-year-old in court this week.

The documents claim Lambert had bombarded Dr Jay with threatening and abusive messages, and he was ordered not to go near the 28-year-old doctor or contact her.

“Your (sic) not safe in that house … I have some of the house keys,” one threatening message read.

Despite the restraining order protection, Dr Jay was forced to crawl bleeding to a neighbouring home on Thursday afternoon after her online ex-boyfriend allegedly stabbed her repeatedly.

Lambert then drove north towards Brisbane, leading officers on a pursuit on the Pacific Highway before road spikes stopped him in Bonville.

When police approached the car, it is alleged Lambert lunged at them with a knife, at which point an officer deployed a taser.

Police say when the taser failed to stop the 36-year-old, two officers shot Lambert dead.

“(Lambert) had spoken briefly about (Dr Jay), just that he’d me this girl Angela,” Lambert’s housemate Eliza Patten said.

Lambert's friends say the brutal attack was out of character for him, but did concede he had been struggling since the breakdown of his marriage and the death of his father.

Recent video of the 36-year-old helping fundraise money to buy an assistance dog for a sick little girl is a stark contrast to the man who police claim went on the attack on Thursday night.

There are unconfirmed reports police were yet to serve Lambert with Dr Jay’s restraining order after being unable to find him this week.

Dr Jay remains in a stable condition in hospital, recovering from stab wounds.
