Hundreds of thousands of racegoers have celebrated the Melbourne Cup across the country, but some punters may have enjoyed themselves a little too much.
One reveller at Ascot Racecourse in Perth managed to jump the track and run along the home straight in the final race of Tuesday's event.
The man managed to leap back into the crowd undetected but was no match for the fillies as race favourite Variation cruised past to victory.
WA Police say crowds were mostly well behaved with 20 move-on notices issued and two arrests made.
One man had to be treated by paramedics after he had a bottle broken over his head.
For punters around the country the day proved a gold mine as Almandin claimed the big Melbourne Cup win, while others were left to pick up the pieces after a long day.
In Victoria police praised the majority of well-behaved racegoers with nine arrests made in the crowd of nearly 100,000.
A total 78 people were ejected from Flemington while officers fined a 75-year-old woman caught drink driving the wrong way through a roundabout after a race day function at her local bowls club.
The woman gave a blood alcohol reading of 0.122 per cent - more than twice the legal limit - and she was fined $661 and her licence was cancelled for 12 months.
