Truckie admits using meth before crashing into cyclists, killing one

A truck driver has admitted he was high on methamphetamine when he ploughed into a group of cyclists, killing one of the men in South Australia.

Popular Port Pirie cyclist Steve Eberhart died at the scene, while fellow riders John Dennis and Hugh Patterson were injured when Sean Daley crashed into them in March.

Daley admits he was under the influence of meth at the time of the Solomontown crash.

He was arrested just hours after and released on bail, before appearing in court on Monday.

Seven News understands Daley will contest 34 further charges relating to the crash, including allegations he drove excessive hours, failed to keep records and falsified his log books.

According to reports, the cycling trio were part of a larger group that ride the same 40km route three times a week.
