Men threaten shopkeeper with tree branch during bizarre hold up

Two men held up a Sydney convenience store on Saturday night with an unusual weapon - a tree branch.

The shopkeeper said he was scared for his life after the men threatened him with the branch and demanded cash.

Police released CCTV vision of the bizarre scene in Cabramatta in the hopes of tracking down the thugs responsible.

The incident occurred just after 7:30pm at a store on McBurney Road.

The men, described as Maori or Pacific Islander in appearance, were captured on security cameras waving the stick at the attendant and gesturing towards the cash register.

"They want to hit me and I [was] scared and I take money for them," the shopkeeper told 7 News.

No-one was injured in the robbery and the men fled the scene on foot immediately after they obtained the cash.

A crime scene has been established and police are searching for the men involved.
