Family rescued from SA floodwaters

A family of four have been winched to safety after becoming stranded in South Australia's floodwaters.

The Shepherd family had been exploring out near Mannum when water caught in a catchment gushed towards them.

The family of four quickly tried to make their way back up the bank, but the water was moving too fast.

“The water was just rushing past us too quick and because we had the kids with us as well, so we just kept trying to run,” Danielle Shepherd said.

“But we couldn’t outrun the water.”

The Shepherds made it to nearby rocks and were able to call for help.

The family, including two girls aged 12 and 10, were then winched to safety after three hours stranded on the rocks.

“The worst fear was that the water was going to come up and we’d get washed away,” Robert Shepherd said.

The family were safely evacuated from the floodwaters without injury.
