'Hero' accused of stealing from dying woman in NSW car crash pleads for 'god's forgiveness'

A woman accused of going on a spending spree with her partner after stealing a dying woman’s credit card says she is still begging god for forgiveness.

Silvia Schreuder, 42, is accused of several counts of obtaining financial benefit by deception after she and her partner, Jason Hall, 44, allegedly stole the contents of aged care nurse Kay Shaylor’s handbag as she fought for life after a car crash earlier this month.

News Corp reports Ms Schreuder had not indicated how she would plead in court but said she had not apologised to the dead woman’s family.

“I am appalled, loathed (sic) there is no more I can say and I am still asking for God’s forgiveness,” Ms Schreuder said outside the Gosford Local Court.

“Whatever I said to the family there will be no apologement (sic) that they can accept... because of what I did wrong.”

Ms Shaylor, 62, died in hospital after her Mitsubishi Mirage was hit head on the Pacific Highway near Gosford on September 3.

Pictures from the scene show Mr Hall assisting rescuers. Ms Schreuder is said to have been holding Ms Shaylor’s hand in the wreck, reassuring her and checking her pulse as paramedics tried to free her.

The pair is accused of later using Ms Shaylor’s credit line to buy whisky, McDonald’s, groceries, cigarettes and a fishing rod.

Supt Superintendent Danny Sullivan said the charges would represent a very low act.

Jason Hall was captured on CCTV at a local business shortly after the accident.

"Should these allegations be proven, I find it difficult to think of a much lower offence," Superintendent Danny Sullivan said following the crash.

"It's caused an outbreak of grief and frustration."

Bianca Harrington, 20, remains in custody over the fatal crash, accused of having smoked five bongs before driving her Commodore on the wrong side of the road and hitting Ms Shaylor’s Mirage head on.

Ms Shaylor’s family have said they would have expected her to forgive Ms Harrington but said they felt no sympathy for Ms Schreuder and Mr Hall, who were now in the hands of judges.

The accident knocked Ms Shaylor’s vehicle onto its side leaving her trapped for about 15 minutes as paramedics and rescuers – including Ms Schreuder and Mr Hall – worked to free her.

She died in hospital shortly afterwards.

Ms Shaylor and Mr Hall were arrested at the Gosford Railway Station on the same day as Ms Shaylor's funeral.

Ms Harrington is due to return to court on October 28.
