Harriet Wran to walk free from prison this week
Harriet Wran will walk free from prison this week almost two months after she was sentenced over her role in the robbery and murder of a Sydney drug dealer.
The 28-year-old's bid for freedom was granted on Friday, after the State Parole Authority deemed her fit for release.
Wran, the daughter of former NSW premier Neville Wran, has been behind bars for two years since being arrested over the fatal stabbing of Daniel McNulty, 48, in a Redfern housing commission unit in August 2014.
She was sentenced in July to four years in jail for being an accessory to the murder.
But with time already served, the one-time Sydney socialite has been eligible for early release since August 12.
The former drug addict has admitted helping then-boyfriend Michael Lee and his friend Lloyd Edward Haines gain entry to the inner city flat, but says she didn't know Lee had a knife and didn't see Mr McNulty being stabbed.
Wran was initially charged with Mr McNulty's murder but that was dropped and she pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact of murder, robbery in company, and harbouring, maintaining and assisting Lee.
Lee and Haines have both pleaded guilty to murder and other charges.
As part of her release conditions, Wran must abstain from drinking alcohol and undergo psychological or psychiatric treatment.
She is also forbidden from contacting her co-offenders and the victim's family.
