Man 'assaulted and stuffed in safe during robbery'

Armed thugs have threatened a man at gunpoint then locked him in a safe during a robbery in Padstow.

Two men wearing masks entered the Padstow Park Hotel on Howard Road at around 12.30am on Wednesday night.

Both men were dressed in dark clothing and one was armed with what appeared to be a small handgun.

The robbers then assaulted a hotel worker, striking him several times, and forced him to open a safe before taking cash from it.

The worker was then forced into, and locked inside, the safe before the men made their escape.

A 53-year-old man was treated at the scene for a broken rib and possible internal injuries.

He was taken by NSW Ambulance Paramedics to Liverpool Hospital in a stable condition.

A crime scene was established and investigators from Bankstown Local Area Command have commenced investigations.
