50 firefighters battle unit block blaze in Sydney's northwest

A man has been left with burns to his arm after a unit block fire broke out in Sydney’s northwest, requiring 50 firefighters to bring the blaze under control.

A Fire and Rescue NSW spokesperson confirmed the fire was under control after an hour battling the flames at an Ermington unit block.

The injured man was treated by paramedics, with firefighters confident the occupants of all 16 units were all accounted for.

Ten firetrucks arrived at the scene just after 7pm following numerous calls for help.

But as the fire consumed the roof of the building, the structure gave way, prompting all emergency personnel to be evacuated.

The two-storey building collapsed down to the ground level, according to the spokesperson, with firefighters using hoses and ladder trucks to extinguish the blaze.
