'Wanted man' arrested at gunpoint by Victorian Police

Heavily armed police arrested a man at gunpoint after making him crawl across the front lawn of a residential home in south-east Melbourne.

The man was believed to be on the police radar for a number of weeks in connection to various offences across the city.

The Special Operations Group arrested the 26-year-old man in Pamela Place, Mornington Friday morning "without incident," police said on Friday.

His arrest was believed to be part of an ongoing investigation into a number of burglaries and thefts.

Footage from a 7 News helicopter showed the man crawling across a lawn, as armed police focused their guns on him.

He was then told to "lie down" with his hands behind his back. before he was handcuffed.

Mornington resident Mitchell Beer told AAP a vehicle "full of heavily armed police" and a handful of police cars sped past him with lights and sirens blaring about 10am.
