Police investigate Melbourne bashing death after man dumped at hospital

Police in Melbourne are hunting a killer who bashed a man and dumped his body outside a hospital where he later died.

Detectives believe the victim was dropped at the Werribee hospital on the Princes Highway west of Melbourne around 5am on Sunday morning.

It's thought a man was driving the car, Victoria Police said in a statement.

The victim soon died from their injuries and homicide detectives are currently investigating the circumstances leading up to the death.

Investigators made enquiries at a Sunshine Avenue in Kealba, Melbourne's northwest, about 20 kilometres from the hospital.

The Caltex service station operates 24 hours, but the worker at the store told police they did not see anything relating to the matter.

The owner of a nearby late-night kebab store who left the crime scene around 3.30am Sunday also told police they did not see anything.

One person, believed to be a witness, was seen leading police around the area.

With the aid of sniffer dogs, police have uncovered possible weapons such as a baton and a large metal torch.
