Aussie butcher defends 'bacon suicide bomber' sign

An Australian butcher has declared he’s ‘not a racist’ after he was criticised for displaying an ad for bacon in his shop window.

Jeff Rapley’s chalkboard sign placed outside his Narooma business read: "Bacon for breakfast reduces your chance of being a suicide bomber by 100 per cent."

The sign reportedly raised a few eyebrows - and bacon sales - in the NSW South Coast town, however it’s believed only one complaint was made about the sign.

A photo of the sign eventually found its way on to social media, sparking debate.

Mr Rapley insists the sign was in jest and was quick to note he employed a Muslim shop assistant.

He said the sign was meant to boost bacon sales.

"I'm definitely not a racist and didn’t mean for it to cause offence," the butcher told Naroomba News.

The local news outlet reported that Mr Rapley’s bacon sales had increased and that he was almost out of stock.
