14yo stabbed in backpack robbery

A teenage girl was stabbed in the back during a street robbery in western Sydney on Thursday night.

The 14-year-old girl was walking with a 15-year-old boy on Swinson Road in Blacktown at about 8:30pm when they were approached by a male stranger.

Police say the man threatened the pair and demanded the girl’s backpack and after a struggle the attacker stabbed the young girl in the back and stole the bag.

“A man approached us and tried to take her bag,” the girl’s friend told 7 News.

The girl was rushed to hospital The Children's Hospital at Westmead with non-life threatening injuries.

Officers from Blacktown Local Area Command attended and established a crime scene and are still trying to find the attacker.

The attacker was last seen wearing dark clothing and he is described as being of Pacific Islander/Maori appearance with a thick black beard and a large build.
