A man self-harmed in Brisbane courtroom with concealed razor blade

A man facing the Brisbane Magistrates court cut himself with a razor blade and was taken to hospital in a stretcher after a violent outburst when his case was adjourned.

It is believed the 40-year-old-man stood up during court Thursday morning, and began slashing his arm, then his chest and stomach, while walking around the room saying “I’m not going back to BoysTown”, The Courier Mail reported.

He suffered deep cuts to these areas, and stopped harming himself when police officers came into the packed courtroom with Tasers.

The man pleaded guilty to a public nuisance charge, which allegedly involved a fight at a CBD hotel in February.

However an argument over the allegations caused Magistrate Anne Thacker to reject his guilty plea and she adjourned the trial.

“There was blood everywhere, there were cops everywhere,” a witness sitting outside the courtroom, Aleisha Stuart, said.

It is believed the man was taken to the Royal Brisbane Hospital in a stable condition and will undergo a mental health assessment.

It was reported court security seized another man had been with an antique knife minutes before the self-harm incident.
