A jealous husband has made a chilling confession to police about murdering his wife's lover near a Melbourne service station.

Gavin Fogwell pleaded guilty to running down Adam Moody in his four-wheel-drive, and then backing over him until he was dead.

Earlier in the night, Pamela Fogwell had told her husband she was staying at a girlfriend's house.

“I thought I better go check if she's there or not and she wasn't there,” Mr Fogwell said in a police interview.

Instead, he saw his wife and her lover Adam Moody at a nearby Deer Park service station.

The men argued about Pamela's pregnancy and the father of the baby, before Mr Fogwell dangerously circled the pair.

He then blocked them as they tried to leave and chased them out of the shop.

In a matter of minutes, Mr Moody was dead.

Police filmed Mr Fogwell's confession on the night of the killing in October last year.

“He's the only one I had to kill mate,” he says on tape.

But Mr Fogwell was not satisfied with running over his wife's lover just once. A number of witnesses told police they saw him drive back and forth over the body as he yelled, “I'm going to kill him”.

In the police interview he was asked: “What have you run over him a couple of times have you?” and Mr Fogwell responded: “F**k about ten. I didn't f**king stop”.

In the lead up to the murder, Mr Fogwell sent a series of threatening messages to Pamela.

“I swear on my life I'm gunna do whatever it takes to keep my wife,” one message read.

“There were people there watching me. Wasn't there? And the police got me at the scene too…. I know what I did,” Mr Fogwell said to police.

He pleaded guilty to one count of murder.

Pamela was not in court but Mr Moody's family was.
