Missing elderly man found after wife dies

Three daughters who were mourning the death of their mother on Tuesday morning and were searching for their missing father who had gone missing Monday evening.

George Robbins has severe dementia, and walked away from his Vermont home in Victoria after his wife collapsed from a stroke.

George and Merril Robbins' family are still coming to terms with the double blow.

They have spent the day between the hospital where their mother died and their parents' home, searching for their 83-year-old father, who was last seen on Monday evening.

“Dad went looking for her because he said to the neighbour he couldn't find Merril,” said Lynne Robbins.

It is believed his wife may have suffered a stroke on Sunday and the father of three was living there unaware that she had collapsed.

“He wasn't able to call us. We didn't know she had a stroke," said Lynne.

Neighbours called to Mr Robbins' house at 10.30pm on Monday because the door was wide open and the lights and radio were left on.

They found Mrs Robbins lying on the floor in the lounge room but there was no sign of her 83-year-old husband.

“{We] just wanted to be there and help as much as we could and reassured and let her know that an ambulance was on its way,” said one neighbour, known only as Darren.

has gone missing before but was always found nearby.

Police located Mr Robbins at a fast food outlet not far from Forest Hill police station the next day.

He is safe and well but will be taken to hospital for observation as a precaution.

Police and Mr Robbins family would like to thank the public and media for their assistance.
