Mauboy apologises for Melbourne Cup no-show

Pop star Jessica Mauboy has broken her silence after failing to make her scheduled appearance to sing the national anthem at yesterday's Melbourne Cup.

While not commenting on the reasons for her failure to appear the singer said she was "so sorry I didn't perform".

"I was really looking forward to it and of all the days for things to go wrong, unfortunately this was the one," the singer wrote on her Facebook page. "I am so sorry to everyone for the disappointment."

After reportedly arriving late for the engagagement, the 26-year-old singer is believed to have refused to go down to the mounting enclosure where she was scheduled to perform before the race.

A backup singer took her place.

Last night a member of Mauboy's management team said the singer was sorry for missing the performance and blamed issues over “clothing and preparation”.

Victoria Racing Club CEO Simon Love said organisers were very disappointed that she did not perform, despite being at the Flemington course.

"We were grateful that Nadia Aya could perform the national anthem ahead of the Emirates Melbourne Cup," he said.
