Global Lego shortage threatens Aussie Christmas wishlists

Everything is not so awesome in Lego Land.

And that could lead to some unhappy faces on Christmas morning this year.

Lego has announced it is dangerously close to running out of stock in Europe.

The toy maker says its factories are running at full capacity thanks to the success of the Star Wars range.

That could leave shoppers staring at empty shelves in coming weeks.

Lego head of marketing for Australia and New Zealand Troy Taylor said there could be no promise that the company would meet Christmas demand.

“While Europe is seeing some challenges in meeting the demand for our products at Christmas, I can share that the Australian market is well placed to meet the demands for our products,” he said.

“While we cannot issue any guarantees that all items will be available, I can say that the majority of our product range will be available to purchase through our retail partners this Christmas.”

Mr Taylor said global demand for Lego products had been ‘significantly higher’ than expected, placing strain on the companies factories around the world.
