Qld woman, 81, trapped in wreck for 9 hours

An 81-year-old woman was cut free after spending up to nine hours trapped in the wreckage of her car in the Gold Coast hinterland.

The car had rolled 20m down an embankment, coming to rest on its side against a tree 15 metres below a road at Mudgeeraba on Thursday.

She was found about 7pm by her son, after she failed to return from a midday outing.

The woman was taken to hospital in a serious condition with the trauma specialist on board suffering from a broken ankle.

Paul Young, Operations Supervisor for the Queensland Ambulance Service, said: "We got a call soon after 7pm saying that a car had gone done down an embankment.

"Once we got the patient out the vehicle we found she had a She had a fractured ankle and
