Sydney couple accused of pouring bleach down flatmate's throat before stabbing

A man and his girlfriend have been charged with the heinous murder of his half-brother who was found dead in a bedroom of a Sydney home on Sunday.

Rhiannon Lisa Bloodsworth, 23, and Trent Errington, 29, appeared at Central Local Court on Tuesday over the death of 26-year-old Jay Cerin whose body was found at a unit in Hebersham in Sydney's west on Sunday.

Police say the pair, who were staying with Mr Cerin, stabbed him to death and poured bleach down his throat.

Both have been charged with murder.

Mr Cerin's partner Ruth Robinson has described him as a "doting stepfather and a kind man who would look after anyone who needed help".

"Just last weekend, he was building my son a scooter for his second birthday," Ms Robinson told Fairfax Media.

Ms Robinson said her partner had re-connected with his father's side of the family in recent months because his father was dying of cancer.

She said Mr Cerin allowed Mr Errington to stay at his unit because he knew the father-of-five was 'struggling'.

"He didn't have to [take him in] but that's who Jay was," Ms Robinson said.

"He only tried to help his brother, offering a roof over his head. This should have never happened to him."

Errington was also arrested over outstanding warrants on a stalk and intimidate charge and using a carriage service to threaten to kill.

Bloodsworth did not apply for bail on Tuesday and it was formally refused.

The 23-year-old appeared in court via video link, and seemed confused at one point asking Magistrate Les Mabutt what day it was.

She is due to have her matter mentioned again in court on Friday.

Errington, meanwhile, is set to return to court in October.

"I've known Jay since I was 12. He was a kind man. He had a heart of gold," Ms Robinson said.

"He wasn't involved in drugs. He wanted a family. We were planning on having a baby. He couldn't wait to be a dad. He will be missed by so many – his family, friends and most definitely myself and my little boy who loved him so very much."
