Two men found safe after boat sinks off Fraser Island in Queensland

Two men reported missing after their boat sank near Fraser Island off Queensland's south-east yesterday have been found, police say.

Police said the two men, aged 38 and 39, from Brisbane and Maryborough, had been on a camping and fishing trip in the Great Sandy Strait.

They sent a text message to family yesterday morning, saying their boat had sunk in the Moonboom area.

Late yesterday afternoon, the family alerted police after having no further communication from the pair.

A Coastguard search was abandoned in poor weather last night but a search and rescue helicopter spotted the men at the northern end of Moonboom Island about 7:30am (AEST).

Water police are on their way to retrieve the men, who are believed to be safe and well.
