Man charged with attempted kidnapping

A man has been charged with the attempted kidnapping of a teenage girl in Sydney's southwest.

Police say that at about 5pm on Friday, January 9, a 14-year-old girl was walking on Riverside Drive at Airds when a man driving a black Holden utility stopped and spoke to her.

The girl walked away but the man followed her then got out of the utility and allegedly grabbed her arm.

The girl called out and struggled free before running home and telling her parents.

On Friday police attended a home in Leumeah and arrested a 22-year-old man.

A search warrant was also executed at the home and a number of items were seized by police.

The man has been charged with attempt detain person with intent to obtain advantage.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday.
