ACT police to reinvestigate 2012 nursing home death

Police will reinvestigate the death of a man at a Canberra nursing home two years ago, amid unexplained circumstances surrounding the death.

The 81-year-old man died at the Jindalee Aged Care Residence at Narrabundah in Canberra's inner south late at night on August 27, 2012.

When police initially investigated, officers prepared and submitted a report to the ACT coroner.

But since then, there have been reports that high levels of alcohol were found in the man's system even though the drinking of alcohol by residents had restrictions and was monitored by staff.

The information prompted the coroner to refer the matter back to ACT Policing for further investigation.

Police have agreed to reinvestigate the death.

The criminal investigations branch was looking into the case and said it would consider all the circumstances surrounding the death.
