Rodent droppings found in food, bakery owner admits breaching standards

An Adelaide bakery operator has admitted breaching food standards over rodent droppings found at the premises.

Michael John Nickols, 60, faced Adelaide Magistrates Court and admitted to 17 offences.

Last February, Charles Sturt Council inspectors found accumulated food waste and dirt at the Champion Bakery premises at suburban Beverley.

Rodent droppings were found in potato flakes and biscuit mixture.

The business supplied several Adelaide food outlets.

Court action also was taken against another Nickols company, Gumleaf Bakery, but the council said those proceedings had ended because the company was no longer registered.

Nickols was yet to enter pleas on a further 10 related offences and would return to court next February.
