Port Adelaide and Crows pick up new recruits from AFL National Draft

Port Adelaide and the Crows have picked up four new players at the annual AFL draft on the Gold Coast.

Adelaide said it had "pulled off one of the steals of the draft" by snaring defender Jake Lever with pick number 14.

The club said the 18-year-old was a potential top-10 selection pre-draft, but slipped through to the Crows.

Lever was a defender with the Calder Cannons in Victoria.

Adelaide also selected defender Harrison Wigg from North Adelaide with its second-round selection at pick number 35.

Harry Dear, whose father Paul Dear played 123 games for Hawthorn, was also drafted, along with forward Mitch McGovern from Claremont in Western Australia.

Port Adelaide used its first pick to draft Dougal Howard from the Murray Bushrangers in Victoria.

The club described Dougal as an "exceptional inside-50 target with a strong overhead mark".

Logan Austin from Belconnen Football Club in Canberra was selected at pick number 69, a player Port Adelaide said had experience as both a key position and occasional ruckman.

Port also picked up Jesse Palmer, a forward from Ballarat, and Billy Frampton from South Fremantle.

A total of 76 players were selected at the draft with nine players from the SANFL, including Wigg who went to the Crows, picked up by AFL clubs.
