NSW motorcyclist dies after hitting pole

A motorcyclist has died after losing control of his bike in NSW's Illawarra region.

The 22-year-old crashed into a concrete barrier and light pole on Five Islands Road at Cringila about 3.15am on Sunday.

He suffered extensive injuries and was taken to Wollongong Hospital, but died a short time later.

It's the second fatality on NSW roads over the weekend following the death of an elderly man riding a mobility scooter on NSW's Central Coast.

The 87-year-old was crossing a road at Norah Head when his mobility scooter collided with a van about 9.15am on Saturday.

He was airlifted to Newcastle's John Hunter Hospital, where he died early on Sunday.
