Brisbane G20: US president Barack Obama bringing Air Force One and 'The Beast' to forum

As world leaders arrive for the G20 in Brisbane, United States president Barack Obama and his ride - Air Force One - are sure to stand out from the crowd.

The famous presidential plane is expected to touch down in about two weeks, carrying Mr Obama and dozens of his advisers attending the forum.

The customised Boeing 747 will be guarded by at least two helicopters and given priority on the tarmac at the Brisbane Airport, among about 30 other state aircraft.

It must be able to take off within 30 minutes of notice being given.

The Australian Defence Force (ADF) has been tasked with ensuring the sky above the airport is secure during the G20.

The ADF has not ruled out the use of surface-to-air missile defence systems.

The presidential plane, which boasts an onboard kitchen, can cater for up to 100 passengers and crew.

This will be Mr Obama's second official visit to Australia, following a trip to Canberra and Darwin in 2011.

'The Beast' to be unleashed on Brisbane streets

After the president touches down, he will likely be driven to the summit in his armoured car known as The Beast.

The vehicle is a custom-made limousine fitted with military grade defence systems and armour-plated doors that are 20 centimetres thick.

Mr Obama's convoy has been known to stretch up to 50 vehicles and feature a counter-assault car, media vehicles and emergency services vans.

Convoys of similar length will also escort other leaders, such as Russian president Vladimir Putin and Chinese president Xi Jinping.

Police plan to close selected roads whenever a state convoy passes through.

The AirportLink-M7 Tunnel, Inner City Bypass and Gateway Motorway could all temporarily close to general traffic to allow G20 delegates to drive through.

Police have prepared to host 25 world leaders altogether and another 10 internationally protected delegates.
