Sex crime claims see Qld officer suspended
A police liaison officer has been suspended in Queensland amid allegations he committed sex crimes while he was off duty.
The officer, from the Southern policing district, is due to face the Richlands Magistrates Court on October 20 for alleged sexual offences.
The Queensland Police Service announced the officer's suspension on Friday.
The southern policing district covers a swathe of Queensland's south, but does not include the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, and the Gold Coast.
A police media spokesman told AAP there was no link between the most recent case, and another that surfaced last month involving a police liaison officer from the Brisbane policing district.
That officer, 49, was suspended last month over claims he assaulted a number of children while off duty.
He remains suspended but no charges have yet been laid.
The Queensland Police Service website says liaison officers are required to establish and maintain a positive rapport between culturally specific communities and police.
The role of police liaison officers is to promote trust and understanding by assisting the community and police, it says.
Liaison officers do not have the same powers as police but may be called on to assist them with law enforcement tasks.
