Man hurt as car ploughs into Sydney home

A driver has left an elderly man injured in his bed after crashing a car into a home in Sydney's northwest.

Police are still hunting for the driver, who fled the Eastwood home, abandoning his shocked passengers in the wreck of the car.

The vehicle ploughed into a bedroom where an 85-year-old man was sleeping, leaving him with facial injuries.

He's been taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a stable condition. Other occupants of the home weren't hurt.

The passengers in the crashed car are assisting with inquiries.

Police want to hear from anyone who might have witnessed the incident, which happened about 2.30am (AEST) on Wednesday, on the corner of Lakeside Road and Epping Avenue.

A police spokesperson said authorities know who the driver is, and have his vehicle registration number but have not yet tracked him down.

Inspector Duncan Eddington told Macquarie Radio on Wednesday they have not yet determined the cause of the accident.

"An investigation will be looking at the cause - whether or not speed or alcohol are factors," he said.
