Missing Tweed Heads brothers hand themselves into police near Byron Bay

Two brothers who have been missing from a northern New South Wales home for more than a week have handed themselves in to police.

Jayden Brady, 14, and his brother Joseph, 11, disappeared from a home at Tweed Heads nine days ago.

Last week, police found makeshift campsites in the Arakwal National Park near Byron Bay.

It is thought the boys had been living rough at the camp with their 38-year-old father.

Officers found the camp but said one of the brothers ran away when he was approached.

The boys handed themselves over to police officers at Suffolk Park near Byron Bay on Tuesday afternoon.

Their father, Daniel Brady, 38, appeared in the Tweed Heads Local Court on Monday charged with breaching bail conditions.

He was denied bail and is due to appear in court again next month.

Last week, Tweed Byron local area command acting superintendent Shane Cribb said the boys had previously gone missing about a year ago for a longer period of time.

He refused to respond to suggestions that a religious cult was involved.
