Muslim leaders to meet ACT Government after anti-terrorism raids in Sydney, Brisbane

A series of meetings have been organised between the ACT Government and the local Muslim community in the wake of counter-terrorism raids in Sydney and Brisbane.

On Thursday more than 800 police launched simultaneous raids on houses and vehicles in the biggest counter-terrorism raids in Australia's history.

Chief Minister Katy Gallagher will meet members of the Muslim community next week in an effort to strengthen ties and ensure community harmony.

It comes ahead of a community conference in October that will address the issue of Muslim radicals.

"There's probably an added level of concern, particularly from the Muslim community," Mr Gallagher said.

"We have seen it at different stages since 9/11 where issues happen in the community, tensions are raised and we need to be able to be on the front foot and able to respond to that.

"I think that's what this meeting will allow us to do."

Minister for Multicultural Affairs Joy Burch spoke to leaders in the Muslim community following the raids on Thursday.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott has since announced that security at Parliament House had been ramped up after "chatter" among terrorist support networks about a possible attack on the Government.
