Vic man late for dog show drives 183km/h

A driver who told police he was running late for a dog show was allegedly clocked at 183km/h near Victoria's snowfields.

Police say the 24-year-old Brighton East man was caught on Friday morning in the 100km/h zone on Mt Buller Road, Boorolite.

They caught another man on the same stretch last Sunday, allegedly travelling 73km/h over the speed limit.

Both men had their cars impounded immediately and are expected to be charged on summons.

Leading Senior Constable Paul Gillard, of Mansfield Highway Patrol, has pleaded with drivers to slow down on the way to the snow.

He says animals are frequently found on the road in the region.

"This can be dangerous at the best of times, but when you're doing 70 or 80 over the speed limit - we're lucky these actions didn't result in a fatality," Snr Const Gillard said.
