French tourist rescued from Tas bush

A French tourist has been plucked from the bush in Tasmania's rugged southwest after suffering a medical condition.

The 20-year-old Frenchman fell unconscious on a Sunday afternoon bush walk in the Mount Field area on the edge of the Southwest National Park west of Hobart, police said.

The man was taken to nearby ski fields where Southern Tasmanian Ski Association volunteers treated him and phoned for assistance.

A rescue helicopter later flew the man to the Royal Hobart Hospital, where he is in a stable condition.
