Precious war medals stolen in Melbourne

Precious war medals have been stolen from a Melbourne home.

The four missing medals are each engraved with their recipient's name "Richard H.A. Mepstead".

"The medals, which date back to World War II, belonged to the victim's father who passed away 14 years ago and have significant sentimental value," Victoria Police said in a statement.

Missing is a 1939-1945 Star medal, a Pacific Star medal, a 1939-1945 War medal and an Australian Service medal for the same years.

They were inside a locked safe that was taken from a home in Keysborough on July 11.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Victoria Police.
