Death-defying kitten's wheelie good tale

Cats are famous for being rescued from trees but a Sydney kitten has been saved after having the ride of its life in the wheel arch of a car.

Firefighters were called to a car park in Greenacre in Sydney's west on Monday afternoon to rescue a frightened kitten after the driver had heard a strange noise coming from the footwell in his car, Fire & Rescue NSW reports.

The man had left work in Rhodes and driven for 25 minutes when he decided to stop and investigate the sound.

When he realised the kitten was trapped under his car, he promptly called in the professionals.

The firefighters found the kitten huddled in the space between the wheel arch and the mudguard area.

Fireman Rory Richardson from the Lakemba Fire Station saved the distressed animal, which was taken back to the station where it was fed and kept safe.

Dubbed "Rory" after his rescuer, the kitten has served its first night shift with Lakemba firefighters and is now into its first day shift.

Mr Richardson is gaining a reputation for his feline rescue missions, it's his second successful cat rescue in less than two years in the job.
