Adelaide fuel retailers warned to drop prices

Adelaide petrol stations have been warned to drop their prices before Easter or risk losing business to country outlets.

The RAA says holiday-makers should consider waiting to fill up outside the metropolitan area in places like Murray Bridge or Tailem Band, where fuel could be at least four cents a litre cheaper.

Chris West from the RAA said they expect prices to begin falling tomorrow as part of the usual fuel cycle.

“There is no legitimate reason for there to be another spike pre-Easter,” he said.

“It may actually pay you to shop at towns just as you leave Adelaide such as Murray Bridge, Truro, Port Augusta, Kadina - these towns at the moment are actually cheaper than Adelaide right now.”

It has prompted some sound advice to Adelaide petrol stations.

“Retailers need to drop the price if they’re going to be competitive, particularly if they’re going to attract holiday makers this Easter long weekend,” Mr West said.

Motorists have been warned $1.51 per litre is the going rate at most country outlets, and anything more than that in the metropolitan area is too high.
