Boy, 15, 'crashed stolen car'

A 15-year-old boy was behind the wheel of an allegedly stolen car that crashed, injuring two teenage passengers, on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula, police say.

The vehicle, a red Mazda sedan, was travelling along Strachans Road towards the Esplanade when the 15-year-old driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle and slammed into a pole, at around.6.30am.

A 16-year-old boy from Mornington had to be freed from the wreckage before being airlifted to the Alfred Hospital for treatment.

A driver and his 14-year-old passenger, both from Rosebud, were taken to Frankston Hospital with minor injuries.

Police say the car was stolen in the early hours of the morning.

There are reports the vehicle was travelling up to 100km per hour in a 50 zone when it crashed.

Residents say they were woken by a 'loud bang'.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
